MAIN: Onion and Garlic Bread Rolls

rolls

My onion and garlic bread rolls are easy to make and delicious too! They can serve as an accompaniment to so many dishes, from heartwarming soups to tasty stews, you could even simply use them for making sandwiches for lunch or a picnic. So why not give this easy recipe a go!

The ingredients you will need for my Onion and Garlic Bread Rolls are as follows:

1. 500g strong white bread flour

2. 7g fast action yeast

3. 300ml warm water

4. 3 tbsp olive oil

5. 1 tsp caster sugar

6. 1 tsp onion granules (or half a fresh onion, finely chopped and browned in a frying pan on a low heat for 5 minutes)

7. 1 tsp garlic powder (or fresh if you prefer)

8. 1 tsp salt

(*This recipe makes approximately 11 bread rolls).

Step 1

Add all the dry ingredients (flour, yeast, onion, garlic, sugar and salt) to a large mixing bowl. Then stir in the warm water and olive oil until fully combined. Use your hands to bring the mixture together.

Step 2

Cover the bowl with some cling film (or equivalent) and allow to rise for at least one hour.

(The longer you leave the dough to rise then the more the yeast can get to work adding air into your bread rolls and this will help to make their texture even lighter and fluffier!)

Step 3

After an hour or two, your dough should have risen nicely.

Now lightly flour your baking tray and start to separate the mixture into evenly shaped balls. You should be able to fit each bread roll ball into the palm of your hand. Space them out evenly on the baking tray.

Step 4

Bake your bread rolls in the oven at Gas Mark 7/220C/425F for between 25-30 minutes until the rolls are lightly brown on top. Set them aside to cool and then you can serve them slightly warm with melted butter and soup.

The rolls will keep fresh in an airtight container for 3-5 days. Remember that you can vary the onion and garlic quantities depending on your personal taste too.

Encourage your children to get creative in the kitchen by making their own dough shaped animals, faces or letters! Either way, the final result should be crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in texture on the inside. Yum! Try adding some pitted black olives or grated cheese into the rolls as well for added flavour.
